Personalization

All of our products can be personalized.

For example, rockers are often purchased as gifts for a baby. We can create a heirloom rocker that the newborn will one day rock their own child in and personalize it with a handwritten special message on the bottom of the chair. Typically the message is written in the center of the seat above the Logo. Below are a few examples of what customers have done in the past:

- Built to commemorate the birth of baby girl Potter, February 2005 Signed by the craftsmen

- Built to commemorate the birth of Ann Brantly Miler, December 2005 Love, Sue and Bill Miler

- To Scott, on your 31st birthday. Love Julie

(On this particular chair, we also hand painted a waving American Flag in the seat because Scott was returning from Iraq.)

- Handcrafted for Mom. I love you Tom

December 25, 2005

We handwrite each message because we feel handwriting is more personal than a plaque or stamp. Also, it leaves the true mark of the craftsmen on the chair. We use a couple different color specialty pens. Depending on the color of the chair, we select a white or black pen. We then Lacquer over the top to preserve the message.

If you would like to have your item personalized, please call in your order for this special request.

Paint Finishes

Paint finishes are available on American and English style Windsors. All paint finishes are hand-rubbed and distressed unless otherwise specified.

Made in the USA Master Craftsmanship

The American Classic Reproductions Collection specializes in handcrafted, reproduction American and English style Windsor chairs. Each American Windsor chair is built in-house, per customer request using the same techniques that period craftsmen used when building these elegant chairs one at a time.  It is 100% American Made by a family owned and operated company.

The American Classic Reproductions Collection chairs are crafted with the traditional three-wood construction developed in the 18th century. White pine seats are deeply carved and shaped. Hard maple legs and stretchers offer strength and support. Oak spindles and bending give each chair its flexibility. The English Windsor chairs are constructed from solid ash. Each American Windsor chair is hand-wedged.

The American Classic Reproductions Collection is an investment for you that will stand the test of time. It is heirloom quality and with proper care will pass to generations to come. Today, customers are realizing the importance of safe, quality products that are also environmentally friendly. These same customers are also starting to rethink disposable purchases and are seeking alternatives for the future. We have an answer.

  • Each chair and table is crafted in a solid wood construction. The wood selected for our furniture is cut from American forest in support of local industry. In efforts to continue the chain, The American Classic Reproductions Collection replants trees each year on their farm.  They have been awarded state recognition for these efforts.

  • Each order is handcrafted specific to an individual customer. By building each order one at a time, we are able to control quality while feeling a personal commitment and connection with the end user, making our job all the more efficient and rewarding.

  • The American Classic Reproductions Collection’s attention to detail sets us apart from our competitors. Our American style chair legs are turned from hard maple because of its strength. Our seats are carved and shaped by hand from a 2” panel allowing us to remove a full 1” of material from the center of the seat. This ensures a comfortable, slide free seating experience. Our competitors use a 1 ¾” or thinner panel. We choose red oak for all of our bendings and spindles because of its flexibility which is a key element in the construction of a Windsor chair as it gives strength to the upper portion which at first glance may appear dainty. Each knuckle and comb is hand-carved leaving the marks of our craftsmen while adding unique character. We never use patterns or presses. Our English style Windsor chairs are built in the same manner and are constructed from solid ash.

  • The American Classic Reproductions Collection tables and occasional pieces are also built per customer request with close attention to detail. Each drawer is dove tailed including a solid wood bottom with chamfered edges. Our legs are cut and tapered in-house one at a time. Breadboard ends are added to allow proper movement as wood settles. Matching Company boards can be added. Available wood options include Poplar, Cherry, Tiger Maple, and Walnut. Although we offer several house designs, custom options are available.

  • Our stains and paints are lead free, low odor and environmentally safe.

  • Our Signature is Your Guarantee! We brand our name onto the underside of every order we build. This signature represents a promise to stand behind our craftsmanship and a guarantee that our furniture will last for generations, ensuring your investment into a non-disposable product that will stand the test of time.

Seating Planner

Trying to figure out how big of a table you need? Use our conveinent Seating Planner to help you!

We recommend that you plan on about 24" per chair. This varies, of course, with personal preference and chair width.

Generally oval, round, or clipped corner tables allow slightly more seating room per person than rectangular tables. Arm chairs generally take up a little more space than side chairs.

Windsor Furniture

When people think of Windsor furniture, they rightfully think of chairs. But the characteristic spindles and common bow shape of the Windsor chair has been adapted to other furniture, like beds, and is given the Windsor name as well.

The Windsor chair is constructed of slender spindles that are socketed into a solid, saddle-shaped wooden seat. It has a high spoked back, outward-slanting legs connected by a crossbar, and a saddle seat. The upper parts are made secure into the seat and are separate from the leg frames. The Windsor is unlike many other chair styles, which have a continuous leg and back post frame.

The Windsor chair has been around since the late 17th century. Legend claims that King George III discovered this chair at a cottage during fox hunting and had some constructed for Windsor Castle, thus bringing about its name.

Windsor chairs were originally intended as lawn chairs and were usually painted green. When it was recognized how stylish and comfortable they were, these chairs quickly became a popular feature around the dining room table. In the United States, the chair took on unique regional qualities. Philadelphia craftsmen made the chair with plain tapered legs. Chair makers in New England created the continuous-arm style.

No matter the design, Windsor style furniture has been a popular choice for generations. It is valued by collectors for being comfortable and well-built with simple elegance.

English Windsor Furniture Stain Finishes

American Windsor Collection handcrafts each English Windsor in-house in the same traditional manner as the American chairs. Every English Windsor is crafted from solid Ash and is shaped and wedged by hand. Because stain takes differently to various woods, slight variation in color can be noticed when comparing American and English styles.

The Windsor Chair - A Brief History

Windsor Chairs are believed to have originated in 18th Century England during the reign of King George III.

Legend has it, the King discovered the chair while foxhunting. He stumbled upon a cottage during a thunderstorm where he found a plain chair, known as a "stick chair," that had spindles for its back and legs.

As the story goes, King George ordered his carpenters to construct these "stick chairs" for Windsor Castle. They soon became known as Windsor chairs.

Interestingly, early Windsor chairs were made for outdoor use. They were lightweight in comparison to solid-back chairs and were unlikely to fall over during a storm because of their open construction. These chairs were painted to protect them from the weather. Dark green was the most popular shade. Paint also served as a disguise to hide the fact that three different types of wood comprised the chair.

As people began purchasing the chairs for indoor use, the colors changed. Furniture makers began painting the greenchairs with vibrant colors of combinations of yellow, red or black. This is why authentic Windsors and reproductions will often feature chairs of one color with patches of green showing through.

When the popularity of the Windsor caught on and made its way to the United States, the chair took on unique American qualities while maintaining its British influence. Chairmakers in different regions of the country competed with one another to design the most popular type. Philadelphia craftsmen made the chairs with plain tapered legs instead of the expensive ball feet. Chairmakers in New York and New England created a new type - the continuous-arm Windsor, with a graceful bowed back and arms. Other major styles included the comb-back, low-back, fan-back, sack-back and bow-back.
