Our Amish furniture is so sturdy that it lasts for generations. Each piece of furniture in the Keystone Collection is a classic expression of the woodworker’s art. This chair, available with or without arms, features ornately carved lilies on the crest rail and turned spindles, legs, and stretchers.
Before the American industrialization of the late 19th century, all chairs were handmade and hand carved by artisans. Once factory manufacturing became more common, America's economy had blossomed and ordering from mail-order catalogs, such as Sears Roebuck & Co., was a regular activity. This trend also applied to furniture, families desiring the same artfully designed chairs of years past for their home, but with haste!
With the invention of the steel die stamp, ornately decorated chairs were possible in short order. Intricate designs were etched into a steel plate, mounted on a roller that would be applied with pressure to a chair crest rail. The resulting impression in the wood resembled carvings previously done by hand.
Our Dutch Lily Press Back Dining Chair is a custom creation for your modern home, inspired by designs past. The customizations are endless - call us with any questions about this item or others in our Keystone Collection.
