Overview

Amish Lancaster Mission 22" Round End Table

Hardwoods Collection

The Amish Furniture Hardwoods Collection handcrafts the highest quality occasional furniture. They specialize in Mission styles created from quarter sawn white oak wood. "Quality" - countless unseen details are often the difference between average and magnificent . . . with the Hardwoods Collection you will see QUALITY!

Hardwoods Collection is nestled in the heart of northern Indiana's Amish woodworking region and has been producing quality hardwood furniture since 1997. With many styles to offer, the focus is on the details of design. Each piece is skillfully constructed by experienced Amish craftsmen who share the rich heritage of woodworking. The Amish woodworkers with the Hardwoods Collection value their customers, old and new, and work diligently to build and maintain long term relationships. Their goal is to provide 100 percent customer satisfaction and to be better by design.

Hardwoods Collection specializes in furniture made from quarter sawn white oak. Quarter sawn is a special way of cutting the wood to expose the grain in a different way. Quarter sawn white oak wood is dense and doesn't shrink or contract as much as regular oak wood or cherry wood. It also resists denting better than other woods.

White Oak Wood vs. Red Oak Wood Quarter sawn white oak wood was the choice of many of the creators of the Arts & Crafts style furniture from the early 1900's. It's not always easy to tell the difference between quarter sawn white oak wood and quarter sawn red oak wood. Given the same stain red oak wood tends towards a reddish tint while the white oak wood will have a brownish tint. This is usually indistinguishable unless the pieces are right next to each other. The biggest difference between the woods is that white oak wood has a more pronounced ray flake, or tiger stripe, cutting through the grain. The striping creates an aesthetically pleasing effect. White oak also tends to be smoother when finished than red oak.

Reviews
While the process required patience, that was understood from the beginning. Quality does take time. I am pleased.
