Amish rockers can provide health benefits

by Tom Grimes

Rocking chairs can be important elements of a living room or a porch. They are traditional staples of the American experience and can play a significant role in fostering conversation and gatherings.

Rockers also have unique benefits due to their mobile nature, especially for older adults who can no longer exercise or are experiencing chronic conditions, such as back pain or arthritis.

LiveStrong.com claims that the health effects of rocking chairs are well-documented for a variety of ailments. One study of patients with dementia found that the rocking could release endorphins that allieviated pain and boosted mood levels.

Nancy Watson, director of Center for Clinical Research on Aging, told the website that the motion of rocking may also reduce anxiety and depression and improve the muscle tone for seniors who are unable to do weight-related activities anymore.

Amish chairs are particularly well-suited for these benefits, because these handcrafted rockers are sure to last for years to come, and will add dignity to a porch or living room setting.

The solid hardwood of Amish rocking chairs is available in different colors and patterns, and some even have leather cushions with optional ottomans, so everyone can find a piece that is suited for their lifestyleADNFCR-3308-ID-19928331-ADNFCR
