The Advantages of Poly Wood Furniture
Poly Wood – An Introduction:
Whether it be clear skies and sunshine or rain, sleet and snow, poly wood will endure it all! This revolutionary new material is an incredible wood alternative for everyday outdoor use – it’s strong, durable, and pleasant to the eyes and touch! Possessing a similar look and feel to wood, poly wood is an environmentally friendly product with almost none of the maintenance and upkeep!
What is Poly Wood?
Poly Wood is made from high-density polyethylene, UV inhibited pigment systems, foaming compounds, and selected process additives. This may not sound eco-friendly, but the primary raw material is derived from post-consumer bottle waste, such as recycled milk jugs and detergent bottles. The material is cleaned in a thorough decontamination process removing any residue, paper and adhesives. It is then compounded into a rigid board stalk material much like milled wood boards. The resulting final product contains 90% recycled materials by weight!
Poly Wood – The Ecological Benefits:
You now know how it’s made but also consider this …
When you buy finely crafted poly wood furniture, you’re investing in a product that will last many years. Cheaply mass-produced, alternative plastic furniture easily breaks and is often replaced on an annual or bi-annual basis – this does nothing but add more waste to our rapidly filling and severely harmful landfills and dumps.
By investing in quality and “buying right the first time,” you’ll minimalize your contribution of detrimental waste to the environment – something we can all feel good about!
Moreover, our poly wood furniture is proudly designed and crafted within the United States. More than an empty sales pitch, this attribute possesses real value for you, your country, and the environment. So much cheap plastic patio furniture is imported on huge freight ships across the Pacific, then further put into huge truck and shipped to retailers across the country. This process requires excessive and unnecessary amounts of fuel, and releases an immeasurable amount of harmful pollutants into our air.
But poly wood furniture crafted in U.S.A. and sold in the U.S.A. doesn’t place nearly such a burden on the environment. With minimal shipping, and friendlier construction methods poly wood creates an infinitely smaller carbon footprint than its traditional, foreign competitors.
Authentic America poly wood furniture is built to last. By investing in locally made products with long lives we demonstrate an active commitment to better the environment so that our children and grandchildren may have the same opportunity to enjoy it as we had.
Poly Wood – Durability & Maintenance:
Poly Wood possesses an exceptional resistance to corrosive substances, oils and fuels, insects, fungi, salt spray, and other environmental stresses. Because poly wood does not absorb moisture it will not rot, splinter, crack, or split. Additionally, poly wood does not promote bacterial growth or mildew, and you’ll never have to take it upon yourself apply water-proofing, painting or staining.
Most poly wood lumber is UV stabilized to prevent color-fading in the sun. Colors endure with a brilliant vibrancy for years. Eventually, however, don’t be surprised to see a slight fade as all things, even the best, will begin fade with time.
Furthermore, poly wood typically features stainless steel hardware that requires no maintenance under normal conditions. If, however, your hardware is regularly exposed to coastal living condition we recommend you rinse it occasionally with fresh water to prevent possible rusting.
With just a little care, your poly wood furniture can serve you, your friends, family, and home with an enduring strength and beauty for years!
To maintain the beauty of your poly wood furniture we recommend that you occasionally wash your poly wood furniture with soap and water. Use only non-abrasive soaps, and do not use a rough scrub brush, such as Scotch Brite Pads, as softer brushes, even cloths, are highly advised. Simple Green, 409 Cleaner, and other environmentally safe natural products are also ideal poly wood cleaning agents.
A pressure washer is another great way to clean your poly wood furniture. Simply add a small, diluted amount of household bleach to your pressure washer and keep the pressure under 2,000 PSI.
While poly wood is resistant to mildew and fungus, both are simply naturally ocurring byproducts of nature and are sometimes unavoidable. The good news is that mildew and fungus will not harm your poly wood furniture and can typically be cleaned with relative ease. If for some reason your poly wood furniture has attained some mold or fungus, household bleach diluted with water and a little dish detergent is an effective way to remove it.
If you notice small black dots on your poly wood furniture, however, you should act to remove them immediately. These dots are probably a fungus commonly referred to as shotgun spores, and they only get harder to remove with time.
In the past, some customers had inadvertently stained their poly wood furniture by leaving flower pots and other items on the arm rests for extended periods of time, so be careful of this. Also, severely hot items, such as heated pots and pans should not be placed directly on the surface of any poly wood furniture as it is possible for the furniture to melt when subjected to extreme heat (typical outdoor heat, even in places such as Florida and Texas, will not warrant such melting).

A Personal Experience with Poly Wood:
On a personal note, I encounter polywod on a daily basis at the beach. Living on Siesta Key, Florida, I’ve noticed more and more beach-home owners are furnishing their patios and balconies with poly wood furniture for both its superior handling of salt-water and rain, and it’s superior visual appeal - especially when compared to other types of plastic furniture! In my experiences and observations, poly wood furniture has always beautifully complemented homes with vivid color and a look that exudes quality.
You think you can settle for a cheap plastic furniture set until you see the craftsmanship and feel the strength of superior Amish-made poly wood furniture. When I saw a cheap Walmart-style plastic chair set in the bed of an old pickup truck the other day my commitment to poly wood furniture was completely reaffirmed. Not only is the cheap, foreign made patio furniture detrimental to the environment, but it’s ugly – I just wouldn’t want to live with it. Perhaps the greatest benefit of poly wood furniture is that you’ll enjoy coming home every day and seeing it!
