Solid Wood Bedroom Furniture under 24 Weeks!
Quality Takes Time
The Solid Wood furniture you'll find here at DutchCrafters is handcrafted by Amish woodworkers built to last through generations. Amish-built furniture is a part of the Slow Furniture Movement - a movement that embraces the conscious creation of furniture built to be kept - not thrown away after a few years of use. This movement came on in response to the massive production of disposable "fast" furniture. Here at DutchCrafters, we embrace quality furniture over quick furniture, and quality takes time. (Read more about the Slow Furniture Movement here!) Our woodworkers work with us daily to ensure we've got the most updated information regarding lead times, shortages, and shipping delays. As more and more delays came up, our woodworkers made a constant effort to maintain the lowest lead times possible without sacrificing quality. However, we can't deny it - there have been significant delays. Here's why:
Supply Chain Shortages
When the supply chain issues started our woodworkers were able to pivot to other available options. If a certain kind of drawer slide became harder to come by, they were able to substitute another drawer slide option, even if it meant costs increased a little. The same is true for hinges, hardware, wood glue, nails, and screws. Once the backup options became scarce, our woodshops started to get overwhelmed. While they continued to build the parts of pieces they could while waiting on shipments of hardware, their shops slowly began to crowd. Many of our woodshops are smaller in size and are not meant to house furniture long term. As they received the delayed parts and pieces, they worked tirelessly to get the orders complete and out the door to our customers. However, in many cases, those parts needed to finalize assembly were being delayed six months or more! This leads to the cancellation of a half-built product, constant adjustments, and ultimately the longer build times you experience today.
Staffing Issues
Amish woodworkers, and the furniture industry in general, are unable to avoid the staffing issues seen across the country today. While our builders do traditionally rely on family to work in their shops, some of them are still significantly short-handed. Combine this with the overwhelming influx of delayed orders, and you're bound to experience a longer than usual wait time. Whether it's a furniture specialist to ensure you've got the information you need to make the right purchase, someone to communicate with our wood shops, or the hands to build the solid wood furniture, we're all a little short-staffed.
