Wait, Is There Plywood in My Bookcase?
Yes. This bookcase has a 3/4 inch back made with high grade plywood. The plywood is not particle board--it is often made with the same wood you select for the furniture. This is not uncommon for high grade, quality furniture. Here's why.
Wood is a natural material. It is going to move and there will be some expansion and contraction. The plywood is thin and allows for the wood movement, preventing cupping or cracking and offering stability to the bookcase.
