Here are our top guidelines for maintaining solid wood furniture.
Wood responds to the moisture in the air. It will expand and contract as moisture changes. It's important to keep an even humidity level in your home to help preserve your furniture. Use a humidifier in winter and air conditioning in summer to keep relative humidity between 35 and 45 percent.
Never store table leaves or fine furniture in a damp basement or garage.
Do not position solid wood furniture directly in front of radiators, fireplaces, heating units or heating vents.
Keep wood furniture out of the sun to avoid fading and any shrinking or drying of the wood. Consider using drapes, sheers or protective window films to protect furniture from the sun's rays.
Light, regular dusting of wood furniture is recommended to remove particles that can build up and cause scratches.
