Our Amish Made Poly Flicker Box is the ultimate invitation, meticulously designed to cater to the specific needs of these magnificent birds, ensuring nature delights in its new, excellent nesting haven. Its robust construction, fortified with stainless steel screws, means it will defy the elements – no rotting, splintering, or fading, just lasting beauty and integrity.DutchCrafters Poly Flicker Nesting Boxes:
Our Poly Flicker Box boasts features specifically engineered for its intended inhabitants:- Interior Mesh Grip: The inside front features strategically placed mesh to allow Northern Flicker Woodpeckers to easily cling and crawl up to the nesting cavity, mimicking their natural tree-climbing behavior.
- Insulated Comfort: A unique 1" thick layer of styrofoam is nestled between double floors. This thoughtful insulation is crucial for protecting delicate bird eggs and newly hatched chicks from extreme temperature fluctuations, preventing them from freezing in early spring cold snaps.
- Easy Access & Cleaning: Featuring a convenient post mount (mount not included, designed for a standard post) and an easy top opening, cleaning out the box after nesting season is a breeze, ensuring a fresh and hygienic home for future broods.
- Best of all, this high-quality Amish Woodpecker Flicker Bird House Nesting Box is genuinely Amish handcrafted in Indiana, right here in America. This means you're investing in superior craftsmanship that promises durability and a timeless aesthetic, all while supporting skilled local artisans.
Flicker Facts: Understanding Your New Neighbors!
- Unique Foragers: Unlike most woodpeckers, Northern Flickers spend a lot of time foraging on the ground, using their long, barbed tongues to extract ants and beetles from the soil. They are true "ground woodpeckers"!
- Cavity Nesters: While they forage on the ground, Flickers are cavity nesters. They often excavate their own nests in dead trees or large branches, but readily adopt properly sized nest boxes like this one.
- Distinctive Calls: You'll know a Flicker is nearby by its loud, piercing "wik-wik-wik-wik" call or a long, rattling "kyeer."
- Nesting Season: Flickers typically begin nesting in early spring (April-May), laying clutches of 5-8 eggs.
- Why a Specific Box? Flickers need a larger nesting cavity and a bigger entrance hole than many other common cavity nesters. The internal mesh provides the crucial gripping surface their feet need.
- Coming Back? If a Flicker pair successfully nests in your box, they often will return to the same location in subsequent years, making your feeder a cherished long-term home.
