Or, upgrade to Aspen wood for its darker tone, higher contrast, more striking appearance. Aspen is even known to include unique rub marks caused by elk horns on the wood, and this shows through to your furniture! Some shoppers prefer to buy the unfinished rustic woods and protect the wood themselves with home-applied oils or varnishes, so that option is available here. But we recommend the standard semi-gloss varnish for its durable protection from insects, moisture, and decay, and the perfect sheen.
