One of our favorite details about this rocker is how its back slats are made:

a Northern Indiana Amish woodworker selects a hickory branch of approximately 35" in length and 1.5" in diameter and cuts it into 5 slats of equal thickness. The widest, middle cut of the branch becomes the center back slat on the rocker, while narrower pieces fill out the back in a balanced way. This means that often, each rocker's slats come from a single branch!
