For centuries, red cedar has been used to construct chests and furniture linings to protect clothing from intrusive and destructive pests. While humans find the sweet smell of cedar oil very pleasing, insects and pests find it to be wretched! 

Is a Cedar Chest Environmentally Friendly?

Cedar is biodegradable, recyclable, and renewable. It's not much of a competition when compared to a cheap, pressboard, glue-filled, fast-furniture, storage chest one might purchase to save a couple of bucks.

In the long run, those pieces don't last and they end up in the landfill, where the glues and formaldehyde are absorbed into our environment. You also have to buy another one.
