Shorea Wood - An Introduction:

Shorea is a tropical hardwood. It has characteristics that are similar to teak wood in terms of appearance, strength and durability; it is also used for many of the same applications. It is especially resistant to damage from insect, fungus and moisture decay. Its rich elegance and beautiful appearance have made it a favorite wood for yacht building, vintage furniture design, hardwood veneers and in particular, manufacturing outdoor garden furniture.

Shorea is found in Southeast Asia, Indonesia and the Philippines where there is an abundant supply. While many tropical hardwoods have become endangered due to illegal harvesting, the supply of Shorea wood is strictly regulated to insure its ongoing availability. Because our Shorea growers practice good stewardship, we are able to consistently obtain good quality material to make our products.
